Some conversations always feel like they can wait until tomorrow.

Then life gets busy… or tomorrow never comes.

After losing my mom in 2023, I realized there were still so many stories I wished I had asked about. Not just the big moments, but the everyday memories, the lessons, the funny stories, and the little things only she could tell.

That’s why I created Ko kēia ao. Ko kēlā ao. – 50 Questions to Ask Before We Go.

This deck isn’t about preparing for death. It’s about making time for the people we love while they’re still here. Whether it’s your parents, grandparents, siblings, friends, or your own keiki, these questions are meant to help you talk story, laugh, reflect, and make memories together.

The name, Ko kēia ao. Ko kēlā ao. (“This world. That world.”), came together with the help of a close friend. It felt like the right way to describe the connection between those who are here with us today and those who continue to shape us through the stories, values, and love they leave behind.

Inside are 50 conversation prompts across five categories. There isn’t a right way to use them. Pull one card or spend an afternoon going through a handful. The goal isn’t to finish the deck—it’s simply to start the conversation.

To make it even easier, every deck includes an Introduction Card with guided session ideas, conversation tips, and simple ways to use the cards, whether you’re sitting down one-on-one or with the whole ʻohana.

The beautiful artwork was created by Pōhai Studios, whose illustrations helped bring the heart of this project to life in a way that feels gentle, familiar, and full of aloha.

More than anything, this deck is for anyone who’s ever thought, “I wish I would’ve asked.”

My hope is that it helps create more conversations today, so we carry fewer regrets tomorrow.
